Capital 3, Round 8 Review

Round 8 of Capital 3 saw Acacia Ridge host Tarragindi Tigers at Ron Proud Field. Both Acacia Ridge sides slipped up with Ressies losing and missing an opportunity to go top of their competition and the top side dropping their first points of the season with a draw.

Ressies had a poor start and were 1 nil down within first 2 minutes. A silly foul at the edge of the box was enough for the referee to point to the spot and we were one down without having touched the ball. The boys responded well, played some good football and managed to get 2 well deserved goals before half time. After the break there was a lot of end to end action as Tarragindi tried to get back in the game and Ridge tried to kill the game off. Eventually Tarragindi got the equaliser but neither team would settle for a draw and both pushed hard for the winner. Eventually Ridge boys blinked first and Tarragindi got rewarded in the dying minutes of the game with a goal to make it 3-2 to the away side.

There has been much excitement about the main game before the kick-off, the much anticipated replay of the last year’s grand final turned out to be anything but exciting. First half saw very few decent attacking moves and chances were scarce for either side. Both sides came out better after the interval and Acacia Ridge boys tried to take control of the game.  The referees whistle was very busy and the game was continuously stop-start. The ball couldn’t move 10 meters without a foul at times and we struggled to get into any kind of rhythm. The game opened up a bit towards the end which saw Acacia Ridge have the best and only chance either team had in the game but the one on one was saved by the keeper. There were a couple of goalmouth scrambles in front of the Tiger’s goal in the dying minutes but overall both defences looked comfortable and the game ended nil all.

Next week is the catch-up of round 1 which sees us take on New Farm on Sunday at home, games kick off at 1pm and 3pm.
