Capital 3, Round 7 Review

Final game of Capital 3 round 7 kicked off with Acacia Ridge taking on Jimboomba at Kurrajong Park on Saturday. Both Acacia Ridge teams kept the run of good form with another win for both.

The reserve side keeps getting better and better every week, this time it was 8-2 with another commanding performance. Despite creating many chances in the first half, Ridge went up by two goals before Jimboomba pulled one back and 2-1 was the halftime score. The boys were much quicker and much fitter than their opponents and despite some very determined defending by Jimboomba it was only a matter of time before more goals came and in the second half the floodgates opened. Overall it was probably the most complete performance by the Ressies this season.

First team was meant to start soon after but the Acacia Ridge players were in a funny predicament before they could step on the pitch. First team kits were involved in a car accident and were not available. This led to some comical scenes where the boys had to improvise and warm up in whatever clothes they were wearing at the time. Jimboomba were very understanding and helpful, they offered to lend us their away kits and agreed to delay the game by 15 minutes to allow us to warm up properly. Thankfully our kits arrived in the last minute and the game was ready to kick off.

From the first whistle Acacia Ridge put Jimboomba under enormous pressure and went 1-0 up within the first 5 minutes. Boys kept the pressure going for the entire half and the first 45 minutes was almost entirely played in Jimboomba’s half. A very determined Jimboomba defence made sure the score remained 1-0 at the break. Jimboomba came out much stronger after the interval but Ridge were well organised and more ruthless upfront which eventually made the scoreline final 4-0.

All in all it was a great day for Acacia Ridge FC, next week we welcome Tarragindi Tigers to Ron Proud Field for games at 1pm and 3pm.
