Capital 3, Round 14 Review

Round 14 saw Acacia Ridge travel to Bald Hills where they met Ridge Hills. Both Acacia Ridge teams had impressive wins when these two clubs met earlier in the season. This time around Ridge Hills were the hosts and they were always going to offer a lot more resistance.

Reserve team had a horrible start to their game. A couple of bad mistakes at the back for our boys meant that Ridge Hills scored two goals within first 5 minutes of the game. Despite going down two goals so early Acacia Ridge kept pushing forward and attacking. The boys showed good attitude and were rewarded with a goal soon after. In their desire to find an equaliser before half time Acacia Ridge got caught out on a break which saw the Ridge Hills score their third just before half time. Our boys came out strong after the break and created plenty of chances. Again the positive attitude was rewarded with another goal from the corner. This was perhaps the best period of the game for the team until Acacia Ridge gave away a silly penalty to Ridge Hills. The penalty was converted to make it 4-2 and the heads went down. Acacia Ridge gave up after this and Ridge Hills got another one just before full time to make it 5-2. Despite conceding 5 goals the boys showed some really good football. In the end it was our own mistakes that hurt us the most.

The first team started well and came out to play the Acacia Ridge way. The boys started to control the game from the very first whistle and put Ridge Hills defence under enormous pressure. Ridge Hills started with five defenders at the back and all 10 players behind the ball. This made it harder for Acacia Ridge to create a clear cut chance but it also meant that the entire first half was played around the Ridge Hills box. Eventually with all the attacking pressure something was going to give and Acacia Ridge went one up. Acacia Ridge created a few more chances before half time but it stayed 1-0 at the break. The second half was more of the same. Ridge Hills decided to be a bit braver but relentless pressure from the boys in blue resulted in another goal to make it 2-0. Acacia Ridge went on to create a few more decent chances but were unable to convert. Ridge Hills caught the boys on a break to reduce the deficit to 2-1 from what was Ridge Hills first and only shot in the game. Acacia Ridge pushed hard for the third goal in hopes to kill off the game but the scoreline remained 2-1.

Again another great performance from the boys, not just football wise but in terms of attitude and discipline too. The boys showed a lot of character and were rewarded with 3 points again. Next up is Clairvoux on Saturday at 4pm and 6pm.
